Pinterest reveals interior trend predictions for 2023
With over 400 million people using Pinterest every month, it’s a great source of inspiration. And in terms of trend-prediction, the social media platform is pretty spot-on, with over 80% of forecasted trends materialising in the past three years (check out Pinterest’s 2022 predictions here). So, what are Pinterest’s trends for 2023?
Think ‘weirdcore’ bedroom décor, with an emphasis on mushrooms, home spa bathrooms and incredible doorscapes. Good Homes takes a look at the interior design highlights from the Pinterest Predicts 2023 report…
We know that dopamine décor is set to be a key interior trend for 2023, but according to Pinterest, this feel-good, uninhibited approach to interior design is about to get a little weird. ‘Anything but ordinary’ is the name of the game, according to Pinterest: ‘Year-on-year searches for “fantasy mushroom art” is up 170%, “weirdcore bedroom” search terms have increased by 550%, and “funky house decor” is up by 695%.’
2. Chance of showers
With the cost of living spiralling, indulgences are getting squeezed, but we still want soul-restoring pampering. According to the Pinterest Predicts 2023 report, we’ll solve this predicament by creating the luxurious spa feeling at home, with searches for ”home spa bathrooms” up 190% year on year. Searches for ”amazing showers walk-in” have increased by 395%, and the term ”shower routine aesthetic” is up 460%.
3. Hipster home
Returning to the theme of individuality, the Pinterest Predicts 2023 report notes that ‘boomers and Gen Z will find new ways to honour old things in their homes, combining vintage and inherited pieces with modern styles.’ There have been huge search increases year on year for ‘eclectic interior design vintage’, which is up by 850%. ‘Mixing modern and antique furniture’ has increased by 530%, and ‘maximalist décor vintage’ has risen by 350%.
‘Combining vintage with contemporary styles can create a lived-in and loved timeless aesthetic,’ adds Wayfair’s Resident Style Advisor, Nadia McCowan Hill. ‘Modern pieces can give antique finds a new lease of life.’
4. All a front
Doorscapes have become a bit-hitter on Instagram around Halloween and Christmas, but this trend is set to become a thing all year round. Starting with the door itself, Pinterest notes that ‘front door transformations’ are up 85%, and ‘front hallway décor ideas’ are up 190%. Wreaths are no longer just for Christmas – change them up every season to make a statement and boost your home’s kerb appeal.
Pinterest also predicts that ‘Boomers and Gen X will care more about water conservation’ in 2023. Searches for ‘harvesting rainwater’ have increased by 155% year on year, while searches for ‘investing in drought-tolerant landscapes’ are up 385%. To keep up with this eco-conscious trend, think about adding a rain barrel or water butt to collect water and reduce your water bills.
